it can be a beautiful thing when you’re on the front porch reading a book, chatting with friends, or writing a blog post. All of which are things I was doing this morning when the rain started to fall. The sun is shining, the skies are bright blue and the clouds let loose.
Grace has been brought up several times this summer and it is especially needed today. Yesterday at the center was rough. I broke up one of several would-be fights. Emotions were high and you could’ve cut the tension looming in the air with a knife most of the afternoon. It was ridiculous. The kids were on edge. The VISTA’s patience was running low and it was hot outside. Not a great excuse but we were all very ready to drive away from the house by the end of the day.
and then it rained today. Rain is one of my favorite things and it just got a little better. It’s a picture of grace. It rains for a bit. puts a wrench in your plans. flattens your hair. floods your basement. But it also nourishes your pineapple plant. cools the air. and reminds you of God’s incredible promise.
There is beauty after the rain. New life is born while others are simply enriched. It is a reminder of a new day and a fresh start. And that’s what we have today at the centers. grace. for ourselves and the kids.
